Summer Term One, Part One
After Easter our topic will be 'Once Upon A Time'
For the first week we will be looking at Kings and Queens and at our own Royal Family. Our core book is 'Don't Wake The Royal Baby'
In maths we will be comparing sizes and weights, starting to use comparative language and positional language.
We will be focusing on environmental sounds in phonics.
Literacy and mark making will be focusing on 'what happens next' in stories and the older children will be learning the principles of reading and writing - left to right, top to bottom.
The second week will be all about Princes and Princesses, and fairy tales / traditional tales.
We have a selection of traditional fairy tales as our reading books.
In maths we will be looking at shapes and patterns, learning to arrange things in patterns, and talking about 3D shapes.
In phonics we will be looking at musical instruments and instrumental sounds, and in literacy and mark making we will be continuing last weeks learning on now and next in stories and starting to respond to pictures and CVC words.
Week 3 is all about Superheroes.
Our core book is ' A Superhero Like Me'
We will be continuing our learning on shapes and patterns and the older children will be looking at simple ABAB sequencing .
We will also continue with our literacy from last week, looking also at the principles of writing again, and at recognising signs and words in the environment. We will be going on a walk around the village.
Phonics will be all about body percussion and following sequences and patterns with sound.
April is also National Pet Month so if anyone would like to bring their pet in for a visit we would love to see them!
