  • Spring Term 2 Part 1 2025

The first part of this term will be all about spring.
Hopefully we'll start to get some spring weather too!

Week 1 will be looking at a changing environment. We will be seeing how the world around us changes from one season to another. We will also be looking at how we can respect the environment we are in by looking at keeping it tidy, recycling and upcycling more, and caring for the world around us.

Week 2 is all about life cycles - caterpillars to butterflys, frogspawn to frogs. We will look at how the environment affects these changes and how these insects and animals are so valuable to us and the world around us.

Week 3 is all about planting and growing. We will be looking at the life cycle of flowers and crops, how they are so important and how we can help them to grow. We will be starting to plant our own seeds and hopefully grow some of our own food to eat in preschool in the summer.

In literacy we will be reading about all of the above. A lot of the books we look at will be reference books rather that stories so that we can see how we can learn from reading and how we can access information.
Our stories will be chosen by the children so they can start to think about favourite tales and learn to repeat the text that they hear.

In maths the children will be learning to build and create using a range of resources, many of them recycled. We will be looking at comparing quantities and talking about more and less.

We will be learning new songs and rhymes, and exploring colour and colour mixing in our creative area.

    Dates for your diary:
Shrove Tuesday - Pancake day 4th March
World Book Day - 6th March
    Science Week - 7th - 16th March

    Our core books are:

'The Window' - a book with no words that encourages children to talk about the changes they see from page to page as the view from a young boy's window changes over time

'From Caterpillar To Butterfly' - a book that shows how a caterpillar becomes a butterfly over time

'Grow it' - all the things we can grow, and how to grow them!
