In Willow Class, we celebrate all achievements.
Art
Willow Class children designed and made their own clay bowls for their art topic. Their designs were influenced by the style of artist Georgina O'Keeffe. The children enjoyed creating their leaf designs out of clay and painting them in vibrant Autumn colours.
Global dimensions
As part of Global Dimension Day, children create their own inventions to support others around the world who are impacted by global warming.
Special guests
Throughout the year Evercreech welcomes special visitors. Willow class welcomed a Yeoman from the Tower of London. This led to rich discussions in the classroom regarding guards, jewellery, crowns and monarchs.
Educational visit
Willow class enjoyed a day out at Carymoor where they learnt about the Romans and their lives. This supported our Roman topic. The children enjoyed looking for treasure, cooking Roman bread, finding numerals and investigating real Roman artefacts.
Computing
The children investigated moving pictures. They were surprised to find out that all pictures can move when you use animation. They designed their own flip books and made a Roman movie.
Design and Technology
The children in Willow Class designed and created their own Roman catapult with a focus on firing a missile. The children then tested out their catapults and recorded their findings.
History
The children produced their own Roman mosaics to adorn a Roman villa.
Team building
In Willow class we work as a team!
Snow Day
This week, Willow class enjoyed a surprise snow day during PE! The children had a fantastic time turning their basketball lesson into snow play. They enjoyed running around trying to catch snowflakes and creating lasting memories with their classmates.
Science
Willow Class conducted small group investigations into the properties of light. We explored how different materials interact with torchlight. Our investigations focused on identifying and classifying materials as transparent, opaque or translucent. We then compared and recorded our findings in our books.
English
In English this week, Willow class has explored instructional writing. The children began by following instructions to create Mrs. McDougall's favourite sandwich with ham, cucumber and pom bears; an activity they enjoyed both making and tasting! Later, the class wrote their own sets of instructions using instructional language and features.
Design and technology
This week, the children in Willow class have made their own pneumatic toys. They discovered that air pressure can be used to power objects and create movement. They all enjoyed creating monsters to their own designs.
Mental Health week
The children enjoyed making bracelets using the colours that represented their emotions.
