Newsletter Spring Term 1
This half term we are looking at winter and at animals and their habitats.
We have already done some lovely pictures and crafts related to winter and we were lucky enough to have a smattering of snow that the children have enjoyed looking at and playing with. We have tried building igloos with ice cubes, and snowmen with glittery white playdoh.
We will be painting coloured ice, and trying to find the best way to rescue animals from the frozen ice. We have a giant penguin puzzle to complete and snowflakes to make with the sticklebricks.
The children have shown an interest in animals and enjoy talking about their pets. We will be looking at animals all over the word, how they live and how they survive in extreme climates. This will follow on next term with life cycles. We are taking part in the Big garden Bird Watch so will be looking to see what birds come to Preschool.
In maths we will be looking at numbers up to 5, and starting to recognise and represent these numbers. We will be looking at circles and triangles and finding them in the environment. We will be practicing drawing them both with large and fine motor skills.
In literacy we have been looking at favourite books and rhymes. We have revisited some of the letters and sounds we learnt last term and will be learning some more. We are starting to make more recognisable pictures and - we've had some really lovely playdoh snowmen!
The children have enjoyed playing shops in our role play area, choosing what to buy and putting the money in the tills.
Our core texts this term are:
Where Snowflakes Fall
Snow is my Favourite and My Best
Monkey Puzzle
What the Ladybird Heard
Little Puppy Lost
Supported by many other books and rhymes chosen with help from the children.
